These are tools for the supervision relationship rather than for client work. The Supervision Preparation Sheet helps a supervisee arrive with a specific agenda — ideally a moment from a recorded session rather than a general case summary — and the Supervision Session Log records what was discussed, the competencies addressed, agreed actions, and any risk or safeguarding issues raised. The Case Formulation Discussion Template structures a formulation presentation: the evidence for it, the alternatives considered, and what would disconfirm it.

For competence development, the CTS-R Self-Assessment rates a recorded session against the Cognitive Therapy Scale – Revised (Blackburn et al., 2001), best set alongside a supervisor's or peer's rating of the same recording. The Reflective Practice Log supports regular structured reflection and can provide material for a BABCP accreditation portfolio. Keep client details anonymised throughout, and act on any risk or safeguarding concern through your service's procedures rather than leaving it in a log.

Frequently asked questions

How should the CTS-R self-assessment be used?

Rate a specific recorded session rather than a general impression of your practice. Self-ratings have real limits, so compare them with a supervisor's or peer's rating of the same recording; the items where the two diverge are usually the most useful targets to take into the next supervision period.

What belongs in a supervision log?

The date and duration, the cases discussed (anonymised), the skills or competencies addressed, the actions agreed, and any risk or safeguarding issues raised with what was done about them. Over time it should show that supervision covers a range of competencies rather than case management alone, which is also what an accreditation portfolio needs.

Can these be assigned to a supervisee?

Yes. Add a supervisee in the supervision area and assign worksheets to them much as homework is assigned to a client, then review their responses before you meet. Free and Starter include one supervisee with up to three active supervision worksheets; Practice allows four supervisees and Specialist unlimited. The preparation sheet works best completed a day or two ahead, so the agenda is agreed rather than improvised.
